Charlotte County Summer Driver's Education Programs

FREE COUNTY PROGRAM!

General Information

Student must be 15 years old by the beginning of the Class. For the first time, the county will offer a .5 Credit After School Program in January. They will also offer the driver's education course one time during the summer.

    1. REQUIREMENTS:
      1. Student must complete the 4 hour Drug, Alcohol, Traffic Education Course.
      2. Student must have in their possession a Learner's License by the start of class.
      3. No Sandals (closed toe, closed heel shoes only), No hats, No Food. Cell phones or Ipods must be turned off during driving instruction.
      4. Enroll through your public school.

*NEW PILOT PROGRAM - .5 CREDIT AFTER SCHOOL PROGRAM:
      1. 6 Hours of Classroom instruction (2 days at Port Charlotte High)
      2. 6 Hours of Behind the Wheel instruction ( 6 - 8 sessions at
          Charlotte, Lemon Bay & Port Charlotte High Schools)
      3. Driving times assigned during Classroom instruction.
      4. Approximately 8 driving sessions after school over a 2 1/2 week
          period OR 6 Saturday sessions.
      5. 1/2 Class Credit.
      6. Preparation for the State of Florida road test.
      7. Upon completion - each student can receive an insurance certificate
          for the purpose of insurance discounts.

    THE SUMMER PROGRAM WILL PROVIDE:
      1. 6 Hours of Classroom instruction (3 days at 2 hours per day). 
      2.
    6 Hours of Behind the Wheel instruction (school pick up,  
          approx. 12 sessions).
     3.  Driving times assigned during Classroom instruction.
     4.
     8 - 12 driving sessions over consecutive days.
     5.
     Each student assigned a 90 minute driving time between
          8:00 - 5:30 (ending).
     6.
    1/2 Class Credit.
     7.
    Preparation for the State of Florida road test.
     8.
    Upon completion - each student will receive an insurance      certificate for the purpose of insurance discounts.

Note: failure to complete required hours of instruction will result in no certificate and no class credit being issued. A grade of "Fail" will be issued for dropping out of classroom and "Incomplete" will be issued for no homework turned in or driving time not finished.
